Applies To:
Halcyon Agent
Overview:
In the event there is a report of performance impact believed to be caused by the Halcyon Agent, this tool should be downloaded to the affected machine and run while the performance issue is occurring.
To Use The Tool:
-
Before running the performance collection tool, ensure that affected application is running.
-
Extract start_perf_collection.cmd to disk, ensure the location will allow local Admin to write files to that directory (i.e. c:\temp\).
-
Using Admin CMD prompt, navigate to file directory.
-
Run command: > start_perf_collection.cmd 20
-
This will run a performance collection for 20 seconds.
-
-
The tool will output the following files:
-
agent.log
-
collector.log
-
perf.etl
-
-
For most OSes, the tool will place the files above into a zipped container.
-
Email the collection package to support@halcyon.ai for review.
- If the zipped package is too large to email, you may also upload the collection to Halcyon using the file share link below:

Additional Information:
Some versions of Windows (e.g. Windows Server 2012 R2) may not come pre-installed with Windows Performance Recorder. In these scenarios, it is recommended to install the Windows Performance Toolkit for that OS available from Microsoft.
By default, if no time parameter is provided the tool will run for 60 seconds which can result in a very large ETL file.
Windows 2016 does not natively support creating zip files from the CMD line. For this platform you will need to manually create a zip container with all three files.
